rocks, rings and really wacky pants

valentine's day - a day for lovers. earlier in the day she had seen several of the female trainees under her care for the week scurrying around delivering boxes of chocolates - sometimes to a door, other times to someone's face and later on she had seen couples everywhere. holding hands, giving gifts, kissing, smiling and...just full of sentimental mush. alright, so part of that came from the fact that this year, like last year, ara did not have a date or at least a boy toy. but even when she was in a relationship, it still wasn't a day she cared about - it was all about showing affection to your male partner and ara just was not the type to be overly sentimental or demonstrative with affection towards a prospective partner. besides in a relationship, she liked to be the one who was worshiped, adored and showered with gifts. (which meant she had three weeks to find someone in time for white day. but that would all depend on her work schedule. and if she were to have any other run ins with members of st*r.)

however despite not having a date, ara did have one good thing on this valentine's day - olympic tickets. she hadn't really known anything about curling when she found tickets for men's draw 2 and women's draw 2, but ara wasn't shy about doing a little research. and after doing said research, she discovered it was a strategy game which meant she was expecting to enjoy herself. thanks to google, she had discovered a few tidbits about the home teams - the men's team was the current pacific-asia champions and were the first asian team to make a final of something called a grand slam event, based in canada, while the women's team were back to back reigning pacific-asia champions and were sixth in the most recent world championship. (they also had to play the defending world champion first thing in the morning, but ara preferred not to think about that.) granted googling the home team also meant that ara had also googled the opponents they would play on the days she had tickets and that hadn't made her feel better. true, on a given day any team could beat another, but team korea had to play team sweeden...a team that had enough hardware to rent a storage unit. two world titles, olympic bronze in sochi, nine (!) european championships, three of whatever those slam events were and a lot of other second or third place finishes. it was rather intimidating and made ara agree that this team would be one of the two teams guaranteed to be in the gold medal game. this meant unless the koreans played well - and edin had had several bad years at worlds according to his wikipedia page - the game she was about to watch was going to be painful, especially with sweeden coming off of a win against denmark and korea coming off of a loss to the us.

her ruminations were cut short due to the sound of bagpipes playing, making her pull a face. what the hell? she wondered, noticing a few other people looking confused too. she knew the game was invented in scotland and that tradition played a huge role, but sure traditions could be ignored for the sake of the public's eardrums. as the intolerable scottish "musical" instrument played, the eight teams playing entered. first were the canadians and the british - though given that the team was from scotland, that might not have been the best label for them followed by the swedes. then came the home team - kim chang-min, seong se-hyeon, oh eun-soo and lee ki-bok - to the cheers of ara and the rest of the korean spectators. following them and entering to much more sedate applause, were the swiss, the italians, the japanese and...what in the hell? the first seven teams to come out to the ice were all wearing black pants. the eighth team to come in - team norway - were wearing what could only be politely called an explosion of colour. she had seen some crazy looks in her time in the k-pop industry (worn a few of them too) but nothing quite on this level. apparently the team wanted to be in theme for the day, sporting a blur of reds, pinks and hearts in a dizzying array as members of the team moved. even as the teams went for their practice slides and throws, ara's eyes kept getting drawn to the far side of the ice to the bizarre clash of colours. unable to stop herself, she remarked "am i just seeing things or is that team actually wearing those pants?"

♥♥♥
[/dohtml]

@takumi sumeragi

leisure time had been something of a foreign concept to ara in the last few years. between her education and idol training, time to herself had been snatched in half hour blocks and many of her hobbies had had to be adjusted so that they could be done while in transit (like wire crochet). granted she was the type of person who like it that way - being busy meant being productive...and also meant focusing on an immediate problem that needing solving rather than mulling over mistakes, the past or could have beens. like her idol career with blacklace. or how things would have gone if her parents were still around. maybe her life would have been better or happier. or at least a hell of a lot less stressful.

on the other hand, the way things had turned out had led her to be able to be at the winter olympics. while she was more of a summer sports fan - gymnastics, judo and volleyball were among her favourites, having dabbled in all of them during her time in middle and high school, granted there was something to be said for the excitement of many winter sports. even if the inventors of each and every one of those sports must have been out of their minds. (skeleton being the biggest offender since one went headfirst down a mountain going over 130 km/hr. on an object that could barely meet the definition of sled.) still, thanks to the special expenses card she had from boss and her salary from cm - which was way more money than she saw in a long time! - she felt flush with funds and with the trainees sticking around in case they were called up for the closing ceremonies or other promotional events, she actually had time away from her office and her overflowing in tray. it was a vacation of sorts - she couldn't exactly ferret out label secrets in pyeongchang - and feeling flush with funds, she went out and bought herself a random events package to go to five events. which meant she could just enjoy herself for a change and act somewhat near her age. hence the half bun held in place behind her head with two south korean flags, something she would never do at work.

she had to admit she was pretty happy with the tickets that had come in her envelope. two for curling - including the evening game on valentine's, but since she didn't have a date, it didn't matter - and ski cross (which sounded insane) and korea vs canada hockey which she thought would be impossible to get. (she didn't know much about canada other than it was supposed to be full of hockey fanatics and so much talent that the korean team had a few half korean imports.) and last but not least - or rather first given the dates on the other tickets - was team figure skating. she had missed the bulk of it since it actually started before the opening ceremonies, but the women's free program was right before the ice dance free which would reveal the medals. and while it wasn't exactly kosher, she was strongly considering seeing if there were empty seats and just staying through the ice dance so she could see the medal presentation. and so far it was looking like it would be a possible scheme to try as she discovered the stadium was not all that full. with a grin, she found her assigned seat, near one of the "corners and relatively high up, but thank god for the jumbotron, which was displaying the standings. so far the olympic athletes from russia (whom ara was surprised to see given all the discourse about doping and a blanket ban), the canadians, the americans and the japanese seemed to be battling for medal contention. though like all koreans, ara was hoping that the performance of the korean skaters would boost the team score...and that the russians would trip over their skates. settling into her seat, she made herself comfortable and held a second flag so she could wave it if the camera panned to her...and then she saw a familiar face and groaned. please do not let him have a seat near me. after jong and komaeda, i can't deal with another member of st*r.

due to my past connections to boss, i will only be accompanying the cm trainees to olympic training when going to sealight instead of boss. we don't need people recognizing my face and asking awkward questions. my games schedule is attached below. there may be time for a face to face meeting as the trainees' duties will be over all too quickly.

something of note - the other day i had eunji jong of st*r in my office. it seems he is finding himself going a little stir crazy in the enforced hiatus. he was looking to act as an adviser to the trainees on matters of songwriting. interestingly enough he admitted his deficiencies in realm of vocal and dance talents. he seems to think that a single mama win makes him a genius. as part of my duty to the trainees, i turned him down, but it may be worth a clandestine message to a gossip publication that jong is looking to usurp the role of the cm songwriters. it may provide a way to lure some of the more gifted writers to boss and leave cm in the lurch.

as well the company is keeping the prognosis of fullmoon well under wraps. there is heavy speculation, but no direct confirmation of whether a new member will be added or if she will return or if the group is finished. cm's pr team is trying to control the story. as soon as i get word, i will send word

good evening

with the opening ceremonies now upon us, i would like to send you a copy of the schedule for the next three weeks. there is a pdf and doc copy of this so i do not want to hear any complaining about incompatible formats or that you didn't have a copy because you lost your paper handout. please note that we are on an early morning charter flight to pyeongchang proper which will be followed by your evening practice with the groups from boss and sealight. during dress rehearsal, sound checks and above all your performance, please do not let our company down.

in other news, given that we will be there for some time, there is discretionary spending to allow you to taken at least one sporting event. if you have access to enough funds of your own, you are welcome to buy tickets for other events, but i suggest a reputable and authorized seller and not a scalper or you will pay way more than you should. speaking of which, i have procured for myself a "random events" package and will be at a several events myself. refer to the list below as i will not be taking calls during those times.

TRAINEE SCHEDULE

feb 4th - 8am flight from seoul to pyeongchang. bus is picking us up at the dorms at 6:30am. anyone late is left behind and will need to pay their own way. this is assuming management hasn't decided to cut you from the delegation roster altogether.
feb 4th - 6:30 pm practice
feb 5th - practices at 9am, 2:30pm and costume fitting 1 at 7pm
feb 6th - practice at 4pm,
feb 7th - no practice, but there is a 10am recording and costume fittings 2/alterations for your outfits. everyone is due at the hotel ballroom at 1:30pm. depending on where you are on the stylist's list and how your outfit fits, you could be there for anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. i suggest you bring reading material.
feb 8th - plan to spend the whole day at the dome. everyone who is performing will be there - this is soundcheck and dress rehearsal day. the stylists and sound technitians at this point will be beyond stressed. i suggest you do everything in your power to keep your outfits clean and your equipment in one piece because i don't want to walk into a potential crime scene.
feb 9th - trainee performer's lunch at 12pm held by the KOC to thank you. we are all due at the dome at 6pm! 8pm is opening ceremonies! you will be live to the world, don't let us down!
feb 10th-25th - olympics. see the attachments. if you have tickets for a specific event, you need to send me the details ASAP so that the managers and i know where you are and who will be in what education and practice pools.
feb 25th - closing ceremonies
feb 26th - 12pm flight back to soeul. the bus will pick us up at the front of the hotel at 10:15 am. once again, you miss the bus, you are left behind and paying your own way.
