Children's Day 2018 !!
Children's Day is a day that is marked in South Korea and Japan on May 5th. In the South Korean tradition, it's often a day where parents give gifts to their children, spend time with them and take them on outings to places such as zoos, museums and other child-centric entertainment venues.

In celebration of Children's Day, the idea is to write about what your character would have been like as a child - or, if you prefer, you can even write a one-shot from their perspective about something memorable that happened to them during their childhood. And of course, for those of you that have characters with children, you can write about that as well! Doing any of these things will earn you a fun new badge for your accounts! Isn't it cute?

Happy Children's Day everyone!!!

nagito komaeda
@Penny

@StarNagi: surprises are just around the corner!!! :D

Nagito wore his brand new coat - green and warm and with a zipper that he kept fiddling with as he rocked back and forth on the heels and toes of his worn sneakers. The wood floor beneath him creaked with every movement, but he didn't mind. He was even humming for the first time in months, still uneasily - but no one was around as he stared straight ahead at the front door to HPO.

Today was the day! His mind kept running off quickly in dozens of exciting avenues - what would their house be like? He bet it was warm and smelled like baking and he'd have his own bedroom with a night light and everything, and even if he didn't, he'd get to sleep in the same room as them so he wouldn't be scared at all! He'd already seen their car, and it was clean and the seats were comfortable and warm. Warm, warm, warm. That was the most important feeling he had right now. Everything was warm and everything would always be warm because they were warm and nobody would dare hurt him and he'd finally have friends and he wouldn't have to hide and everything would just be good.

He wondered what it would be like in the morning. Would he start school somewhere else? If he did, would they be there? Would they do what parents did in all those books and movies and things - make breakfast and hug him and drive him there? Ooh, if he didn't go to school tomorrow - would he get to sleep in? Or - no, sleeping in would be bad! They'd probably go to work early and he'd never see them all day! He was prepared to have to do all the normal routines - make his bed, brush his teeth, pick out his clothes, make cereal (he didn't want to try to burn down the house making toast, he was going to be a Good Kid, he decided, they thought he was) and walk himself to school to not be a burden on them at all. But he wished they'd be there. He hoped they would at least be there at night time. It was hard to go to sleep when he was alone, and even harder to find ways to pass the time after school - did they have books? They seemed like they would have an entire library of books! Oh - he was so excited!

He heard a car engine rev down outside, and a car door slam a few times. He stopped himself from getting, gripping his hands behind his back tightly and feeling like his entire chest was going to burst wide open! They were here! At least he hoped, but - yes, they were!

The door opened, and Chisa's head came through first. She was smiling, and he couldn't help but let his own smile grow as big as possible in response, eyes lighting up like Christmas (Christmas! What would holidays be like???). She was wearing the most beautiful blue dress he'd ever seen and the comfiest looking coat, and Jong-Su coming in after her and looking so gentle had on jeans. He was so excited to see them it wasn't until he caught a flash of something behind Chisa's dress that he realized another person was there.

His eyes went down quickly, and immediately his smile started to falter, eyebrows knitting in. The person there was smaller than him, another little boy... wearing the same coat he was wearing.

His heart skidded to a halt in his chest. He felt sick all of a sudden.

He should have known this would happen. Nobody could really love him, could they? That was what everyone was always saying! And this proved it! They'd found someone they liked better and were coming to tell him the truth! He should just take off the coat now to give it back to them and tell them thank you and go quietly like a Good Kid but he wasn't a Good Kid, he was a Bad Kid and he was going to cause A Scene Again and hot tears were already stinging at his eyes and he was biting his lip to try to keep from yelling and -

"Oh no - Baby," Chisa swooped down and pressed a warm cloth to his face, wiping away his tears quickly and rubbing his nose. "What's wrong?"

He couldn't respond, giving way into sobs already. Why was she being so kind? He couldn't even be mad! He didn't want to look at her right now, trying to push his hands up and rub his own eyes independently.

"Are you... excited to come home and see your brother?" Jong-Su ventured. What was he even talking about?

"He's upset," Chisa chided, clicking her tongue at her husband before looking back to him and wrapping him in a tight hug. He tried to squirm out of it, but quickly settled. "Are you... scared? What's wrong? We can't help you if you don't say anything..."

He opened his eyes, breath shuddering his chest as he looked wildly around and finally - caught sight of the littler boy close by, watching him with this concerned look on his face. That was just more upsetting-

Wait... what was it Jong-Su had said?

He took deep breaths, trying to gulp down air to calm himself down quickly. But by the time he had, Chisa was already explaining everything, letting him go while still kneeling on the ground and letting him stick as close as he wanted to her. So... this was his little brother? He had a little brother? He was a big brother???? What was his name?

"Makoto," the littler boy replied to his question with the brightest smile he'd ever seen. It was so infectious that he couldn't help but smile back

"I'm Nagito," he said in return, and quickly hugged his new little brother as tight as he possibly could.

@Dessy

@MichiKat: I wonder if I can down an entire bottle of wine in one night...

Michiko was sprinting as far as her legs could move her, dragging her Father behind her and rushing down the halls. "Come on, come on, I have to go meet him!" The older man behind her chuckled, but let his daughter pull him along anyway. "They're not going anywhere, Michi, you can slow down." The other Nurses laughed, but immediately moved out of the eager seven year old's way. When they made it to the front door of the room, she stopped and waited for her Father to open it first, before she ran in and climbed up to the bed her Mother was laying.

"Hi, Michi." Her mother greeted, receiving a hug from her daughter before Michiko tried to peer over her mother's arms to look at the bundle she was holding. The bundle was shifted to her other arm, lowering it to where Michiko could look over and be met with the tiniest eyes she's ever met. "This is your baby brother." "He's little." Was Michiko's only comment, peering down at the baby that was smaller than she was - and she was small! - before she reached to touch his head. "He's soft. Does he do anything?" Her mother laughed before answering. "Not yet, you have to wait a little while before he starts doing things. Have you decided which name you like best?" They had gave her a list of names they both liked, before letting Michiko choose one. "Yuuri!" She called out, leaning her face closer to her new baby brother's to make a face and causing her parents to laugh. "Yuuri it is. Want to hold him?" Michiko nodded, immediately getting helped off the bed by her Dad, running over to the chair that was in the room and pulling herself up.

A pillow was placed on her lap, and Michiko pushed her glasses up on her face and eagerly held her arms out when the baby was being brought to her. "Hang on, Michi." Her father laughed again, before getting down to her level and putting the baby on the pillow. "Hold his head with this arm. It's very sensitive, and you don't want him to get hurt." Michiko let her Dad adjust her arms, one behind her brother's head and the other going across him. "He's so little. I don't wanna break him." Her expression turned worried, mother laughing as her Dad slowly pulled his hands away. "See? You got it." Michiko's eyes went wide, staring down at the small infant in awe. "He's so cute." She whispered, before leaning her face closer to the babies. "Hi, Yuuri. I'm your big sister, Michiko!" She introduced herself, earning another laugh from her parents. "Can I keep him?" Her mother started laughing again. "I promise he's not going anywhere, Michi." She looked back down at her brother, keeping her arms still as the baby moved his head. "I love him."

The baby in her arms suddenly started moving, immediately beginning to cry and making the brunette widen her eyes. "What did I do?! Does he hate him??" She asked in a panicked tone. "You didn't do anything; babies do that. It could be a number of reasons - maybe he's hungry. It's not because he hates you, either. It's fine, Michi." Michiko looked back down at the crying baby, shifting him closer to her and making a soft "shh" sound. "Shh. It's okay, Yuuri. Your sister's here. Shh. It's okay." She pet her brother's head, shushing him softly as her father got a bottle ready, and in a few moments the baby quieted down before the bottle was ready, earning a smile from the seven year old. "Looks like you're already a great big sister. See? He does like you." Her father commented as she was handed the bottle and being allowed to feed him (with her father's assistance, of course). Once she had a good grip on both the baby and the bottle, he let go, Michiko holding the bottle up and looking down at the now quiet baby. "I'm gonna take good care of you and be a good big sister. I promise." With a kiss to the baby's head, she adjusted her seating and kept feeding her brother, watching him until he fell asleep.

@pandazhifang: It takes more than blood to be a father. Mine is alive and well here in Seoul, trying to make a difference. Thank you, appa.

Fang stared at the smear of glitter eyeshadow on his cheek, biting back the soft huff of laughter to glance away from the mirror and back to Huan's intense face of concentration. The three year old had recently started taking interest in baba's 'pretty things', and had just realized she could put her puppy eyes to good use.

So he was weak and caved to the first plea of "wanna make baba pretty", but really, he would put up with anything his daughter wanted to try out.

No matter how ridiculous it made him look.

And he had seen much worse looks on some of the excursion he made to bars, so really, a child experimenting would probably look better.

Ducking his head down when little hands tugged at his collar, he stayed still for the next streak of eyeshadow across his skin. At least it brought out his cheekbones like highlighter... "You're doing good, baobei," he made a point to say, bending down further to press a kiss to Huan's forehead.

Soft giggles greeted the gesture, and he felt rather than saw the stubby fingers spreading the eyeshadow to the line of his jaw - but it was the furthest concern from his mind. "Baba, still!"

Obeying the words, Fang's eyes darted back up to the mirror. Iridescent green and blue with glitter...he was starting to look like a mermaid. Well, more merMAN at the moment, but maybe if he got his wig out later...

He had time. Right now, he was going to sit still and let his baby girl continue. He really needed to get a picture of her doing this, or call in her mom from the next room for a video.

@Claire

@taku_star: I'm sorry

Takumi bolted through the hall way, trying not to trip on things in the darkness, "PAPA! PAPA!"

"Takumi what the HELL!" His father emerged from his room. He hadn’t been the same for the past few weeks, not since Mom died and Sakura was born. He hadn;t shaved at all, and looked just disheveled and tired, when he even poked his head out at all to give Takumi any attention. “I just got Sakura to sleep and-” He let out a sigh, as he heard the echo of an infant screaming. “Thanks a lot” he mumbled to his four year old son as he walked toward his daughter.

But Takumi was insistant, “Papa its back...I think its in the potty.”

“What are you talking about?” his father demanded as he gently rocked Sakura and hushed her.

“The monster!” Takumi insisted, “The bathroom is making the noise now.”

“Well what do you want me to do about it? Takumi please, the best thing you can do for me is go to bed please.”

“I think it killed Mama! I don’t want to die too!”

His father’s face, even in the dark, visibly softened, and he placed the now pacified Sakura back in her crib. “Fine I’ll check for you.”

Takumi shook as he saw his father walk away, and looked back at his sister staring at him, slightly wiggling her limbs. He’d be damned if the monster hurt her too.

His father returned shortly. “It gave a good fight, but I flushed it down the toilet. It won’t be coming back anytime soon.”

Takumi instantly believed him, “Okay Papa! I’m glad you’re as good of a monster killer as Mama!”

His father laughed, “Actually she learned it from me...good night Taku-kun.”

Takumi nodded, “Okay! Good night Papa.” He put a hand on his sister’s head and she flinched from the touch, “Good night Sakura!”

As he shut the door he barely heard his father mutter, “I can’t believe he thinks the air conditioning is a monster….”

@ziaoshinyshiny: this twitter account no longer exists

Zhihao , at three and a half years old, wasn't exactly the best at sharing attention with his little brother - especially when said little brother was almost always sick and needing their parents' focus.

He also hadn't had much time to spend with his little brother, either, since he was born. If anyone spent more time with the baby than their parents, it was Lan. As the oldest, that was basically to be expected. But with his sister at school and his mother needing someone to help her watch the baby - while she stayed in the room and watched both of them, naturally - the task was up to a little boy who wasn't very impressed by the family's youngest.

And maybe there was a little childish jealousy when Zhi hugged his teddy bear close to himself, scooting back from the reach of Tao. He knew better than to whine - mama would get onto him for it - but he was intent on keeping the toy from his little brother. It wasn't like the baby didn't have a lot of toys of his own...

What Zhi hadn't anticipated was his little brother crawling after him and latching onto his sleeve with a grip that was surprisingly strong. Staring at the baby with mistrust, he watched Tao's free hand reach out and latch onto his other arm - not to get at the toy he was holding, but to use the grip to pull himself up and lay on his legs.

"...Tao," Zhi said, almost telling the baby no and trying to worm his way out of this, but something stopped him.

Mostly the weight on his legs and the way his little brother was babbling at him now. Saying the baby's name had gotten his attention, go figure.

"Play with me," he mumbled, trying to be quiet so mama wouldn't overhear. It was easier to go along with the baby's bid for attention and not have to deal with their upset mother.

Handing over his favorite stuffed toy turned into a trust exercise from a middle sibling to the youngest, one that ended after a couple hours' of play with the two piled up asleep together. Tao had finally won his brother over, and Zhi didn't want to let him out of his sight after that.

@arasori: save me from members of ST*R!!!

cw: parental loss

Ara So-Ri before the accident that claimed her parents was an overly curious child, always climbing or testing things. in fact it became a running gag in the family - if you turned your back on ara so-ri for one moment, there was a strong possibility that she would be attempting to outsmart the baby gate, have used gravity to escape the playpen and found someway to climb up to the counter where the cookie jar was being stored. the problem with these escapes or cookies raids was an indulgent father who reveled in the skills and wondered how it was possible that a small child could accomplish it. so while her mother was googling the latest fad in toddler/child proofing the apartment, her father was setting up his ipad to film the hijinx and posting them to facebook and youtube. to try and funnel these escapist tendencies - which including copying a movie, tying sheets together and attempting to use them as a climbing rope at the park - into more proactive outlets, ara so-ri was signed up for gymnastics classes, which she enjoyed, especially getting the coloured ribbons indicating she had progressed another level. however after the loss of her parents and being passed into the care of distant relatives, the hijinx dwindled to nothing as the girl realized her new guardians disn't care for them in the way her parents did. first the climbing, then the sports aside from school and even the full use of her double name...

@Dessy

@HaeRose: Thank you everyone for Mani's concern. As leader, it's my responsibility to make sure she is being taken care of and I'm going to make sure she stays that way. ❤️

Haebitna paused from her climbing of the tree, hearing her Mom calling for her from the house. The six year old turned, sitting herself on the snow-covered branch and swinging her feet. She should climb down, but she knew her Mom would find her either way. "Haebitna! Come out, please." Her mother made it to the backyard, searching in a panic for where her daughter ran off to. Haebitna had a habit of wandering off without letting either of her parents know; a habit she got scolded for more than once, but it wasn't her fault she wanted to explore and just forgot to tell them where she was going. Like the backyard.

"Haebitna!" Her mother called again, getting close to the tree, and Haebitna took this moment to swing herself upside down, hands gripping tightly to the branch so she didn't fall. "Hi, mama!" Eun-Jae jumped, hand landing on her chest and she sighed in relief before looking at sternly at her daughter - who was giggling over the fact she scared her Mom. "Hae! You need to stop wandering off, we talked about this. How did you get up there?" "I climbed!" The girls hands let go, arms hanging down in a proud gesture and Eun-Jae immediately panicked and grabbed onto her daughter. "Get down! You're going to hurt yourself. Now come on, it's Christmas and your Aunt and Uncle are coming by any minute." "Okay! Catch!" The girl smiled, letting go of the branch completely and falling jumping into her mother's arms, who thankfully caught her. "Haebitna Baek!" Eun-Jae scolded, placing her on her feet and smoothing out her hair once her feet touched ground. "Sorry, mama!" Haebitna called, running directly into the house once her barefeet had touched ground. "Why don't you ever where shoes?!" Eun-Jae called her daughter, but laughed anyway at the fact her six year old despised shoes.

Haebitna was being occupied by her father, sitting next to him and leaning across her Dad's arm as she watched him play the piano. Up until her Mother came into the room. "Bitty! They're here!" Deok-Su didn't have a chance to blink before Haebitna shot up, immediately sprinting out of the room and right past her Mother, nearly knocking her over in the process. "Haena! Slow down!" It was a fruitless effort, she knew that, and Haebitna just jumped up to grab onto the door handle and pulled it open, that being the only "slowing down" she did before she went barrelling straight towards the pair of legs. Her arms immediately hugged onto him, the older man chuckling before she was scooped up into the arms of her Uncle. "Hi, Haena." She hugged his neck, being passed over to the woman and earning a kiss on the head. "It's nice to see you too, Bitty. Now go on, we know you you want to go ahead and give Anna her Christmas present already." She was placed back on the ground, earning a soft hug from her older cousin, the twelve year old ruffling her hair before Haebitna was tackled onto the ground.

"Anna!" The six year old grinned up at the smaller girl on top of her, sitting up and shaking her head to get as much out of it as she could. "Come on! I have to give you your present!" A grab onto the four year old's hand, and she ran right back into the home, the adults all laughing as Anna was pulled to her room. She only slowed down enough to grab the small box from her table, running up and handing it to Anna. "I made it myself!" The girl beamed, hands folding behind her back and bouncing on eager toes as Anna pulled the bracelet from it's box, carefully hand-made with string and using Anna's favorite colors. "It's a friendship bracelet! I have a matching one." She held out her own wrist, the lavender and purple bracelet fastened around it before she reached over to tie the other around Anna's wrist. "It's because we're best friends, and we're always going to be. Forever! No matter what happens." "Promise?" The smaller girl smiled up at her, and Haebitna made a thinking face for a second out before giving a firm nod, holding out her pinky. "Pinky promise! Starting now, I will never, ever break these. Ever." Once the other girl's pinky wrapped around hers, Haebitna pulled the girl into a hug before grabbing her hand again. "Let's go see if Elle wants to build a snowman! Before it's time for dinner!" She grabbed onto Anna's hand again, running straight out of the room to go outside.

cw: kidnapping, non consensual drug use

Kyung-Hu had assumed things were about to get worse between her parents when some of her favourite toys and clothes went missing. had she done something wrong? or were the lawyer fees getting so high that they needed to start selling their belongings to make money? (after all a lot of her mother's things had gone missing too.) however she didn't want to ask either parent about it because she was afraid it would make them sad to realize that things were getting so bad with money. after a few weeks of pretending everything was fine - even though she'd stopped inviting people to come over and play - she was ready to believe that it was going to get better when her mother picked her up from school and asked if she wanted to go on a four day weekend holiday to the sea. she didn't even hesitate to say yes because she hadn't been on a trip in so long and it would be nice to get away - even if the reply of "maybe" to her question regarding whether her father was coming as well wasn't as convincing as kyung-hu would have liked. after the second hour in the car, they stopped at a pharmacy to get some snacks and though it was odd that she would be allowed to have a cherry soda in the car, especially so late in the day, kyung-hu was happy and quickly quaffed the pop, even though it tasted more sweet than she thought it would, and weirdly she felt tired after a while instead of hyper. (even years later she never realized her mother had put cought syrup into her drink so she couldn't tell the route they were taking.) when she woke up, she was in a nice little condo by the sea...only instead of it being a holiday, she was told this was their new house, where they could start over without her father. she didn't like the idea and at least wanted to call her father which wasn't allowed...though three weeks later she managed it at school by faking sick. and then the cycle of the long car ride and "this is our new home" would start again.

@tohrinart: the joke is on you.

let's just skip kyu-byul because ... for obvious reasons.

toh-rin dutchman wasn't always the person she is now, more than two decades after her birth. in the few first years of her life, there was sunshine around her - she loved to live and she had been able to enjoy the sparks of light in her life as they guided her into her mother's and father's arms.

perhaps, there was this one moment where she had felt the happiness around her just as she was used to feel - the love, for once in a life. she was only little, perhaps four year old, holding hands with each of her parents. even as they had to bow down to reach little toh-rin's hands, they did. smiling brightly, they responded to the kid's smile at that day, eyes which yet ignored her surroundings and their skeptical glances at the korean and white couple.
undeniable that just this casual walk had been enough for her to make her smile.
only that the steps faded away from her, making it impossible for her to return - ever again - to this place where different emotions had ruled her world.
but that's okay.

turning away from the window, turning away from her own bidding eyes in the reflection, she had to stay strong. there was no place ... such as mercy. no place such as love. it was the law of the strongest. she had to go back to business - once more.
... and it was a pleasure to do so.

one time, he sneaked out of his father's office to discover university campus, carefully paying attention that he wouldn't get caught - his father wasn't always fond of him being around anywhere, but he was the one who wouldn't pay attention to him and who wouldn't play!
this was the first time he accidentally bumped into the university principal who was friendly enough to offer some tea - yay! even as he felt bad to be caught, he enjoyed talking to the principal who told stories of his father he hadn't known before. and just as his father had finished his work, they would return home and the kid couldn't stop talking about anything he had heard earlier on.

sometimes, even today, the stories of his father baffled the young man. had everything happened just as the grown-ups had told him back then? or was it another mystery on his way to the top? who knows, who knows ...

just one day, it was a work day like any day else, the police offer had a free day and he dedicated the hours to spend them with his adoptive daughter. for once in her life, she ... was allowed to play a little bit foolish, out of the mature role she had - as her father was very busy, like, almost all the time, there hadn't been much time to play. tired he went to work, exhausted he came home. but ... that day was different. they went into the woods, her favorite place, and played all the games there - hide and seek, capture the flag and a little bit sword fighting. even as they were only two, she was just as happy as she had never been before.

today, she would look back to that moment and she would cherish it even more. now, both of them were quite busy, but she made sure to have enough time for a call - and to have enough time to hang out with her proclaimed children haebitna, anna and her groupmates, how little the time might be. she had learned that a moment could change anything forever.

it wasn't until her stepbrother's arrival and his stupidity that she came out of her shell and discovered the outer world a little bit more. perhaps the most remarkable event of her childhood was the short glance she caught of peter park as she was doomed to visit her stepbrother at the dance studio.
first, it had been nothing, she nearly ignored the other guys and just went on ranting about her brother's foolish behaviour. then, it was so much more.

thinking back of that moment, the girl would easily call it fate, a golden thread that had connected their lives - and anything like that. thinking back of her childhood, she wouldn't say it was wasted to books and even more letters and papers. without this cold yet useful upbringing, the girl would have never started to cherish even small things with careful hands, even as she seemed to be rough at first.

@givingshelter: you're not alone because of all of us <3

lynn seo remembered that most of her childhood memories hovered around her father. she spent most of the time with him, and rarely met other children. being around him had been the essence of her day and she was most happy - even as she wouldn't understand the meaning of the papers he frequently filled out until very recently ...

they visited the shrine at new year together, they played in the sandbox, they celebrated her birthday together. the most precious present was the last one she had got from her father - a brown teddy bear, quite normal, but she loved it as she had received it from him on the last birthday they had celebrated like usual, before everything changed around her.

even today, the girl keeps this teddy bear close to her heart, it is one of the last memories of her father that were still vivid and clear as if it was just yesterday ...

@canonlybemal: hey, it's me! <3 anyone missed me? ofc you did.

mae-lee chae hadn't been a good child and would probably never be one. most of the hours he had been awake, he spent with making noises, practicing playing drums because not many children would hang out with him and he despised spending time with his sisters (just like they rather disliked being around him as well). the other half of his day he was mainly in his company's building, as he was a trainee from very little on. even as he was talented, even as he got compliments from the mentors and coaches, he never had many friends - if any. but hey, he wouldn't need any friends. he had enough enemies he could mock.

the most remarkable moment was as he met chenglei hú - and perhaps it was because of the bad character of both that they immediately bonded and became best friends. he could remember many moments they had spent together, making some irreversible minutes in his life.
he had been happy, really.

even as he hates looking back now. what was that taste of feeling he got when he did so, indeed? a blurry thought, nothing worth thinking about. it would only anger him - ... even as anger was just as fine as energy source as ever.
